EURO 2016 Kick-off

EURO 2016 Kick-off

Posted by Tinkerbots Team on

No more waiting! The eyes of soccer fans from all over Europe are on France right now, where the UEFA EURO 2016 takes place from June 10th till July 10th. We are looking forward to hopefully see 51 exciting matches. The tournament starts tonight with the opening game when host France will be facing the Romanian national team at the Stade de France.

The EURO 2016 brings us some alterations in comparison to the last tournament four years ago in Poland and Ukraine. For the first time ever, 24 teams will be competing in six groups for the championship title and not only the first and second team will be qualified for the knockout round. The four best teams that placed on rank three will also go to the next round. The large number of participants also brings us some teams that have never qualified for a EURO before. These teams are Albania, Iceland, Northern Island, Slovakia and Wales.

Here is an overview of all teams at the EURO 2016 in France:

The EURO in France also brings us a couple of new laws on the pitch. As a matter of fact, the referees had to learn 95 new laws. For instance, they will be using the goal-line technology that was already introduced at the World Cup in Brazil to help at controversial decisions. Between six and eight high-performance cameras are monitoring the goal area from different angles to determine the exact position of the ball. Furthermore, players are not allowed to feint to kick the ball if they are already running at a penalty kick. A short delay is still possible.

As a warm-up for the EURO, we played a round of tabletop soccer. With our Tinkerbots robots. We are curious if the players at the UEFA European Championship will be on such a high technical level as our Tinkerbots kickers. Because we have created three ultimate soccer talents for the future from a Powerbrain, motion modules, Cubies and LEGO®. The racer will be faster in the penalty box than Gareth Bale or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. In another version with two Powerbrains and Pivots, our robot can shoot so precisely that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi could even learn from our Tinkerbot. As a real back-up, we equipped our goalkeeper with a Pivot and a Twister. Now, he is even better then Manuel Neuer.

The Tinkerbots team wishes you a lot of fun with the UEFA EURO 2016 in France!
