The best songs about robots

Music tells stories, it makes you want to dance and there is the right song for every mood. But what is actually the subject of most songs? Of course, it’s a little things called love. There is not much that touches people’s heart like a singer admitting his love for another person to a heartbreaking melody. But not every artist wants to sing about this one famous subject. If it’s politics, sports or a summer holiday – today, there are songs for every single subject in the world. Of course, the world of technology is included as well. In order to celebrate today’s Fête de la Musique, which takes place in over 540 cities around the world, Tinkerbots has put together a special playlist with the best songs about robots ever.

Kraftwerk – "Die Roboter/The Robots": There is no other band that combines technology and music in the way that the German band Kraftwerk does. They have revolutionized electronical music in the 1970s. The link between robots and Kraftwerk is obvious. In the past, the band has sent robots playing the group at media events and of course they have dedicated one song from 1978 to the robots.

Styx – "Mr. Roboto": One of the biggest earworms among the robot songs is „Mr. Roboto” from the 80s rock band Styx. The song is part of the rock opera "Kilroy Was Here" and it was released in 1983. Today, "Mr. Roboto" is a real classic, especially at karaoke bars.

Daft Punk – "Robot Rock": The two guys from Daft Punk are not only making music for the dancefloor, they also like to present themselves as some kind of robot. The Frenchman don’t want to be recognized in public and therefore they are always wearing masks or helmets which make them look like real robots. The song "Robot Rock" may be instrumental but you can imagine that a real robot would really enjoy dancing to this tune.

Flight of the Conchords – "Robots/The Humans Are Dead": The comedy duo Flight of the Conchords is the biggest export from New Zealand. In their HBO show with the same name, they performed three to four very funny songs on every episode. One of these songs is "Robots/The Humans Are Dead" about a future, where robots have survived the humans.

Radiohead – "Paranoid Android": This song by the band Radiohead is actually not about robots. It’s about an awkward evening that lead singer Thom Yorke spent at a bar. In fact, he sings "I may be paranoid, but not an android". But the title was taken from Marvin, the paranoid android of the novel "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy".

As you can see, robots have a special place in pop music. Unfortunately, our Tinkerbots robots are not able to sing any of these great songs. But with a little bit of creativity, you can combine a Powerbrain, motion modules and Cubies to build a dance robot. Discover even more songs about robots in our Spotify playlist:
